Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team. As a Medical Assistant II, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical staff in the examination and treatment of patients. You will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services to ensure the smooth operation of our healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Answer multi-line phones, screen and route calls, and take messages for clinic staff and physicians.
    • Schedule and edit patient physician appointments for new and returning patients.
    • Schedule consultations with other clinics or physicians as needed.
    • Greet patients and request that patients and visitors be seated in the waiting room and communicate unexpected delays as needed.
    • Collect patient demographic and insurance data.
    • Determine and document need for signatures for conditions of registration.
    • Identify and obtain services requiring authorization and appropriate process for the payer type.
    • Inform new and returning patients of authorization and payment.
    • Collect and post co-pays.
    • Obtain required signatures.
    • Maintain records in accordance with guidelines.
    • File and retrieve chart documents.
    • Print and use scheduling reports.
    • Retrieve and prepare patients charts.
  • Clinical Duties:
    • Prepare the necessary equipment and supplies for exam. Maintain inventory of supplies in examination rooms, replenish as required.
    • Escort patient to exam room; measure and record vital signs.
    • Prepare patient for examination or treatment and perform routine screening tests. Explain treatment procedures to patients.
    • Report patient's concerns and symptoms, reactions, changes (appropriate to age) to licensed clinic personnel. Document clinical information, including patient phone calls and maintain accurate and complete patient documentation according to medical profession standards.
    • Assist physicians with procedure set-ups, patient procedures and examinations. Administer medication by intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injections, perform skin tests, venipunctures and other technical supportive services upon the specific authorization and supervision of a licensed physician or nurse.
    • Collect and send specimens to appropriate labs for testing per protocol.
    • Process requests for prescription refills according to established practice.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of all requirements in a recognized Medical Assistant training program or equivalent completion of the minimal training requirements as outlined in section 1366 of the Business and Professions Code.
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of inventory management practices.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment according to physician protocols, guidelines or instructions.
  • Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal with diverse patient/family interactions and demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff, including high volume and stressful situations.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions and the ability to multi-task and to change priorities regularly.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle a high volume of interactions (phones, patients, etc.).
Working Conditions

The work involves considerable physical exertion such as frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending and stooping, and walking. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, where conditions cannot be controlled. Work is performed in an office setting which is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Outpatient clinical setting with ability to travel between work locations as needed.

Compensation

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
