POSITION TITLE: Sports Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director - Zarrow Program YMCA

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Sports Director is tasked with overseeing the administration and management of youth athletic programs, adult leagues, and specialized sports camps at designated locations. This role emphasizes responsibilities in budget management, facility oversight, community engagement, program quality, and effective problem-solving. As a key member of the YMCA Leadership Team, the Sports Director will ensure the delivery of quality programs that align with the YMCA's mission and values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Recruit, train, and orient all sports personnel, covering payroll processes, instructional techniques, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
  2. Manage staff scheduling while adhering to budgetary limits and maintaining appropriate participant-to-staff ratios.
  3. Attract, retain, and train volunteers and staff for all seasonal programs.
  4. Develop new program initiatives and expand existing offerings in line with the strategic goals of the Association.
  5. Address member and community inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.
  6. Secure and coordinate the use of athletic fields and facilities as required.
  7. Facilitate and lead meetings for parent organizations.
  8. Conduct training sessions and meetings for coaches.
  9. Transport and set up equipment for games and practices.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned or necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Sports Programming, managing multiple locations and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance a sports program.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification.
  • Experience in supervising volunteers or staff.
  • Understanding of sports programming, marketing, and program execution.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS).
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish.
  • Experience in soccer, both indoor and outdoor.
