POSITION OVERVIEW

Location: Tulsa, OK

As the Head Coach of Men's Tennis, you will be responsible for mentoring and instructing student-athletes in athletic skills, academic success, spiritual development, and life skills enhancement, aligning with the institution's mission. You will oversee recruiting, scouting, and scheduling for the program while ensuring adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, Federal, and State regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide instruction to student-athletes during practices and competitions. Assess athletes' skills and review performance metrics to evaluate their fitness and potential in the sport. Organize and lead practice sessions and sports-related activities, including training camps and skill development courses. Adapt coaching methods based on athletes' strengths and weaknesses.
  • Track the academic progress of student-athletes. Collaborate with the Director for Academic Services to identify and address challenges. Aim to prevent academic eligibility issues and assist in enforcing the mandatory study program.
  • Support the social and spiritual growth of student-athletes. Partner with Athletic Chaplains and University staff to create programs that offer guidance on social and spiritual matters and address disciplinary issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate community outreach and service initiatives. Engage student-athletes in opportunities that foster a sense of community and the importance of giving back.
  • Develop initiatives to enhance student-athlete integration on campus. Teach the significance of campus involvement and engagement.
  • Implement a life skills program. Provide instruction in both group and individual settings on essential skills for personal and professional success, such as time management, financial literacy, leadership, and teamwork.
  • Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes. Follow NCAA guidelines to recruit high school and junior college athletes. Evaluate academic progress and familiarize families with the University’s mission and athletic program. Arrange official visits for prospects, including travel and lodging, and maintain accurate recruiting records.
  • Attend athletic events as required. Engage with community groups as needed. Foster relationships with athletic department donors through various promotional activities to support the program's budget.
  • Perform various administrative tasks as needed. Organize travel for team events, manage equipment orders, and oversee student managers to ensure availability of necessary athletic gear. Assist in creating a competitive event schedule and scout opponents to develop game strategies.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of and comply with NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations. Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or a designated representative.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent knowledge and experience.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

• Two to four years of relevant experience is preferred.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint is preferred.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Ability to make independent decisions on administrative and procedural matters.

• Capacity to analyze information to determine appropriate actions within standard practices.
