Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Sports Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director - Zarrow Program YMCA

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Sports Director is tasked with overseeing the administration and management of youth sports, adult leagues, and specialized sports camps at designated locations. This role emphasizes responsibilities in budget management, facility oversight, community engagement, program quality, and effective problem-solving. As a key member of the YMCA Leadership Team, the Sports Director will ensure the delivery of high-quality programs that align with the YMCA's mission and values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Collaboration with colleagues is essential to achieve the YMCA's objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Recruit, train, and orient all sports personnel, covering payroll, coaching techniques, safety protocols, and emergency response.
  2. Manage staff scheduling while adhering to budgetary guidelines and maintaining appropriate participant-to-staff ratios.
  3. Attract, retain, and develop volunteers and staff for all seasonal programs.
  4. Initiate new program offerings and expand existing services in line with the strategic goals of the Association.
  5. Address member and community inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.
  6. Coordinate the reservation and scheduling of athletic fields and facilities as required.
  7. Facilitate parent organization meetings to foster community involvement.
  8. Conduct training sessions and meetings for coaches to enhance program delivery.
  9. Oversee the transportation and setup of equipment for games and practices.
  10. Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in sports programming, including managing multiple locations and staff.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and expanding sports programs.
  • Current certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid/O2.
  • Experience in supervising volunteers or staff.
  • Strong knowledge of sports programming, marketing strategies, and program execution.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in a relevant field.
  • Understanding of budgeting and expense management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience in soccer and both indoor and outdoor sports.
