GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Raw Sugar Production Team Leader will facilitate the operations, maintenance, and production processes within the Boiling House. This role necessitates overseeing the functioning of clarifiers, juice heaters, evaporators, vacuum pans, crystallizers, centrifugal equipment, ancillary pumps, and facilities in the designated operational area. Responsibilities include ensuring sufficient staffing and resource distribution, upholding quality standards, and addressing any operational or employee-related issues that may arise.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS: Manages daily operations, production, and quality metrics while providing leadership and support to the team, fostering a constructive work atmosphere. Responsible for managing employee performance through ongoing feedback and resolving any issues that may occur.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring production output aligns with established specifications.
  • Identifying efficiency issues and proposing enhancements.
  • Recognizing process variations and adjusting parameters within acceptable limits.
  • Delegating responsibilities to team members to facilitate daily operations and job-related tasks.
  • Training new hires on safe operational practices, machinery usage, and procedural adherence.
  • Conducting preventive maintenance and repairs on process-related equipment as necessary.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Engaging in other related projects and assignments as business needs dictate.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the sugar manufacturing process.
  • Experience with sugar production machinery.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, HMI software platforms, and process control principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical and maintenance-related information effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Proven supervisory experience with the capability to direct, mentor, support, and delegate tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management abilities with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to adapt swiftly to a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure and focus under pressure.
  • Proficient in using laptops, tablets, and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc.).
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish) are preferred.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of engineering or manufacturing, or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in raw cane sugar processing and maintenance is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular attendance during scheduled shifts is mandatory.
  • The position requires working in environments with heat, stairs, ramps, uneven surfaces, noise, and dust.
  • Ability to perform tasks that involve standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, kneeling, reaching, and crawling is essential.
  • Must be capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida (SCGC) consists primarily of family-owned grower-members who produce approximately 4 million tons of sugarcane, yielding around 400,000 tons of raw sugar and 20 million gallons of molasses, cultivated on roughly 75,000 acres of land mainly in Palm Beach County, Florida. With a workforce of over 500 employees, the Cooperative manages the mechanical harvesting of sugarcane annually, followed by the processing and marketing of sugar, molasses, and other by-products.

In addition to our core operations, SCGC, in partnership with Florida Crystals Corporation, owns and operates ASR Group International, the world's largest cane sugar refining company. ASR operates nine sugar refineries and two raw sugar mills across seven countries, with the capacity to produce over 6 million tons of refined sugar each year, offering a wide range of consumer, industrial specialty, and food service products under various renowned brand names.

In 2018, SCGC, Florida Crystals Corporation, and ASR Group established Tellus Products, an innovative packaging company that upcycles leftover sugarcane fiber into sustainable tableware and foodservice products, including compostable plates, bowls, and take-out containers.
