GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Sugar Production Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operational, maintenance, and production activities within the Boiling House. This role entails managing the operations of clarifiers, juice heaters, evaporators, vacuum pans, crystallizers, centrifugal equipment, ancillary pumps, and related facilities in the designated operational area. Key responsibilities include ensuring appropriate staffing and resource distribution, maintaining quality standards, and addressing any operational or employee-related issues that may arise.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This position involves supervising daily operations, monitoring production and quality metrics, and providing leadership and support to the team while promoting a positive workplace culture. The supervisor will manage employee performance through consistent feedback and resolution of any concerns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure production output aligns with established specifications.
  • Identify efficiency issues and propose enhancements.
  • Recognize process variations and adjust parameters as necessary.
  • Delegate responsibilities to team members to facilitate daily operations and task completion.
  • Train new staff on safe operational practices, machinery usage, and procedural compliance.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on production-related equipment as required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company and safety regulations.
  • Engage in additional projects and assignments as needed.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of the sugar manufacturing process.
  • Experience with sugar production machinery.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, HMI software platforms, and process control methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective information exchange.
  • Able to collaborate within a team-oriented environment and engage with all organizational levels.
  • Proven supervisory experience with the ability to lead, mentor, and delegate effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adaptability to a diverse cultural environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure and focus under pressure.
  • Proficient in using laptops, tablets, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or manufacturing field, or a combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating the capability to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in raw cane sugar processing and maintenance is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular attendance during scheduled shifts is mandatory.
  • This role involves working in environments with heat, stairs, ramps, uneven surfaces, noise, and dust.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, kneeling, reaching, and crawling.
  • Must be capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

The Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida (SCGC) consists primarily of family-owned grower-members who produce approximately 4 million tons of sugarcane, yielding around 400,000 tons of raw sugar and 20 million gallons of molasses, cultivated on approximately 75,000 acres of land. With a workforce of over 500 employees, the Cooperative is responsible for the mechanical harvesting of sugarcane each year, followed by the processing and marketing of sugar, molasses, and other by-products.

In partnership with Florida Crystals Corporation, SCGC co-owns and operates ASR Group International, the world's largest cane sugar refining company, which includes nine sugar refineries and two raw sugar mills across seven countries, with a production capacity exceeding 6 million tons of refined sugar annually.

In 2018, SCGC, Florida Crystals Corporation, and ASR Group established Tellus Products, an innovative packaging company that transforms leftover sugarcane fiber into sustainable tableware and foodservice products that decompose back into soil within 75 days.
