Key Responsibilities: As a Senior Microbiological Research Leader, your role will encompass:
  • Acting as a Team Leader, overseeing the distribution and management of tasks among team members based on established workflows and individual skill sets.
  • Adjusting workloads to meet priorities and ensuring timely completion of team objectives, while fostering an environment where each member contributes significantly to the final outcomes.
  • Serving as a senior scientist and recognized expert in viral diagnostics.
  • Planning, initiating, designing, conducting, coordinating, and leading both fundamental and applied research studies, particularly focusing on the development of innovative diagnostic tools for various virus families that impact human health.
  • Providing expert consultation and guidance to the agency in your areas of research specialization, contributing to policy development and educational resources.

Employment Conditions:

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet specific criteria, including:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Compliance with Selective Service registration for males born after December 31, 1959.
  • Potential for a Background/Security Investigation.
  • Participation in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
  • Direct deposit of pay is mandatory.
  • Possibility of a one-year probationary period.
  • This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications:

All candidates must fulfill the qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

  • Basic Qualifications: A degree in microbiology or a related field, with a minimum of 20 semester hours in microbiology and additional coursework in physical and mathematical sciences.
  • Experience: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, including conducting national and international studies related to virus detection and sequencing.

Additional Information:

This position offers telework eligibility, which may include remote work options and flexible scheduling arrangements. These arrangements can be requested after employment commencement.
