Position Overview

As a Senior Microbiologist Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:
Leading a dedicated team in the field of microbiology.

Your leadership will encompass:

- Identifying and distributing tasks effectively among team members based on their skills and the established workflow.
- Adjusting workloads to meet established priorities, ensuring timely completion of team objectives.
- Ensuring that each team member plays a vital role in the successful delivery of the final product.

Acting as a senior scientist and a recognized authority in the domain of viral diagnostics.


- Planning, prioritizing, initiating, designing, conducting, coordinating, and directing both fundamental and applied research studies, particularly focused on developing innovative diagnostic methods for virus families that impact human health.

Providing expert consultation and guidance to the agency in your areas of research specialization.

Engaging in the formulation of policy and educational materials, as well as participating in review and advisory panels.

Employment Conditions

- US Citizenship is required.
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

- A one-year probationary period may be necessary.
- This position may be governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Time in grade (TIG) must be satisfied within 30 days of the announcement closing date.
- This role may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.
- A Drug Test and Random Drug Testing may be required.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be fulfilled by the closing date of the announcement.

Basic Qualifications:

Degree:

A degree in microbiology; or in biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that includes at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and related subjects, along with 20 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences, including coursework in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.

OR

Combination of education and experience:

Courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that include the aforementioned coursework, along with relevant experience or additional education.


Minimum Qualifications:


To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which includes:
- Conducting national and international studies and/or surveillance for the detection and sequencing of viruses.

Education


Submission of transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an educational requirement, or if qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience.
