Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Youth Development Specialist at the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong commitment to supporting the well-being and development of young people in a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Support Residents: Provide direct supervision and guidance to residents, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Implement Programs and Activities: Develop and implement programs and activities that promote the social, emotional, and educational development of residents.
  • Monitor and Report: Monitor resident behavior and report any concerns or incidents to senior staff.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective approach to supporting residents.
  • Document and Record: Maintain accurate and detailed records of resident behavior, incidents, and progress.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as Social Work, Psychology, or Education, and at least one year of experience working with young people in a secure environment.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a team, and a strong commitment to supporting the well-being and development of young people.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move desks, beds, and other furniture, step up on elevated surfaces, and perform other physical tasks as required.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to Resident Behavior: Exposure to resident behavior problems, including physical acting out, and the ability to manage these situations safely and effectively.
  • Exposure to Complex Mental Health Issues: Exposure to residents with complex mental health issues and the ability to respond appropriately.
  • Exposure to Unusual Health Conditions: Exposure to unusual health conditions or residents of a communicable nature and the ability to take necessary precautions.
