Status: Full-time, exempt

Supervision: Oversees Accounting Assistant, Facilities Director, IT Manager.

Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the comprehensive financial management of the organization, including oversight of facilities and information technology, as well as co-managing human resources functions. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of all financial operations, which encompasses reporting, transaction processing, budgeting, audit preparations, and general business functions. The CFO plays a key role in the senior management team, collaborating with the President & CEO to establish policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plan, develop, and direct the financial management of the organization’s resources.
  • Provide financial advice to the President & CEO on business-related matters.
  • Enhance and implement finance-related policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  • Maintain robust internal controls to protect assets and ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
  • Coordinate financial audits, including preparation of supporting documentation, draft GAAP financial statements, and IRS Form 990.
  • Generate monthly financial statements and analyses promptly and accurately.
  • Oversee payroll processes and ensure compliance with payroll reporting requirements.
  • Supervise the Accounting Assistant’s work on payables, receivables, and deposits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead long-term financial planning, analysis, and forecasting for strategic initiatives and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop, manage, and report on the annual budget.
  • Facilitate meetings for the Board Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and Peoria Riverfront Museum Foundation Board, preparing and presenting relevant financial reports.
  • Manage banking relationships to ensure consistent and positive cash flow.
  • Coordinate appropriate insurance coverage for the organization.
  • Administer the employee benefits program and conduct new employee orientations.
  • Support the Facilities Director and IT Manager in their respective roles.
  • Work with the President & CEO to set annual goals for Finance Department staff and evaluate their performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field; CPA, CMA, or equivalent coursework for CPA certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in accounting, including financial statement preparation, budgeting, and supervisory roles; experience in not-for-profit organizations is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, GAAP, and not-for-profit fund accounting.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, accounting software, and enterprise-wide operational software.
  • Familiarity with not-for-profit ethical standards and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams, special interest groups, committees, and volunteers.
  • Capability to train, direct, coach, and motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and assess goals that align with the organization’s mission.
  • Skill in articulating the cultural and educational values of the Peoria Riverfront Museum to staff and the public.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to maintain a full-time schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Effective verbal communication and interaction skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and general office equipment.
  • Capable of substantial wrist, hand, and finger movements.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual acuity to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in assigned tasks.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for job responsibilities.
