The Certified Medical Assistant will assist patients and families with the registration process, lab draws, and RN-assigned duties and tasks.

The CMA performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the assessment area runs smoothly.

The CMA will help to coordinate admission and discharge procedures assigned by the RN.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collecting pertinent information regarding the patient's chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit.
  • Completing necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other healthcare facilities.
  • Administrative tasks including, but not limited to, patient check-in or check-out, registration, prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, verification of benefits, and coordination of referrals and testing.
  • Maintaining department-specific competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
  • Completing lab draws and phlebotomy-associated tasks.
  • Helping the RN coordinate transfers between regional and external entities.
  • Collecting pertinent patient information such as vital signs and health history.
  • Prior authorizations through insurance companies for services and medications rendered by the department.
  • Obtaining patient demographics and entering into the EMR, completing the registration process for patients entering the facility.
  • Assisting unit team members and patients with daily activities and interventions.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Registered/Certified Medical Assistant (RMA/CMA) program or equivalent upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI Training) within 3 months.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy tasks.
