Position Summary:
As a Telecommunications Field Engineer, you will be instrumental in managing and executing various projects related to our telecommunications infrastructure. Your role will encompass overseeing the operational integrity, maintenance, and installation of our systems. Key responsibilities include conducting on-site evaluations, installations, repairs, and enhancements of our telecommunications networks. You will collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to implement effective technical solutions and promptly address any arising issues. This position requires local residency in the Pittsburgh area and offers a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive field surveys.
  • Create construction and splicing drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Prepare and submit necessary permit applications to relevant authorities.
  • Manage field visits and expectations of local authorities and facility managers.
  • Perform assessments to provide essential data for construction estimates.
  • Evaluate site conditions to determine telecommunications infrastructure needs.
  • Install, configure, and test various telecommunications equipment and systems, including antennas, cables, routers, and switches.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and network issues as they arise.
  • Carry out maintenance and upgrades on existing telecommunications systems to ensure peak performance.
  • Provide technical support to field engineers and clients, both on-site and remotely.
  • Document installation and maintenance activities with detailed field notes, including equipment configurations and test results.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while working in the field.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals within established timelines and budgets.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in telecommunications technology.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as a field technician in the telecommunications sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of telecommunications equipment and systems, including antennas, cables, routers, and transmission technologies.
  • Proficiency in using testing and diagnostic tools, such as spectrum analyzers and OTDRs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience with AutoCAD computer-aided drafting is required.
