POSITION SUMMARY

The Analyst in the Gas Supply and Trading Analytics team plays a pivotal role in supporting the Manager of Fundamentals and Trading Analytics. This position is essential for the development and upkeep of analytical models that guide both immediate and strategic decisions within the Gas Supply and Trading division. The focus will be on the Texas energy market, particularly ERCOT, alongside relevant natural gas markets. Key responsibilities include data collection, model development, and effective communication of fundamental insights to various stakeholders, including senior management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish and maintain a detailed analysis of the ERCOT power market, encompassing supply and demand trends, regional dynamics, short-term market fluctuations, and regulatory considerations.
  • Examine and articulate the primary factors influencing US gas market fundamentals, including production patterns and economic impacts.
  • Construct and sustain analytical frameworks that aid the Supply & Trading team's decision-making processes.
  • Evaluate and convey the critical drivers of US and ERCOT power market fundamentals, including demand patterns and regulatory effects.
  • Create presentations that effectively communicate the strategies and outcomes of the Gas Supply & Trading group to a diverse audience.
  • Assist in the ongoing analytical activities of the fundamentals group, generating regular market outlooks with a focus on ERCOT.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Supply & Trading group's performance drivers to identify significant market shifts.
  • Proactively identify the need for new analytical models to adapt to evolving market conditions.
  • Enhance internal tools to improve existing analytical processes.
  • Monitor new infrastructure developments and regulations that could influence pricing.
  • Support traders with profit and loss analysis, including the creation of new reporting tools.
  • Gain insights into the Supply & Trading team's various supply positions.
  • Collaborate with the Transport and Storage team to foresee fundamental changes affecting long-term infrastructure decisions.
  • Engage with other analytical and strategic teams within the organization as necessary.
  • Participate in industry events to foster professional relationships.
  • Address various ad hoc analytical requests.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge:
  • Ideal candidates will have experience in the fundamental analysis of US natural gas and power markets, particularly with some familiarity with ERCOT. Backgrounds in trading, risk management, or research roles in commodities or financial markets are also valuable. Strong technical skills and experience applying economic analysis to trading decisions are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required, along with the ability to learn new software.
Skills:
  • Strong analytical capabilities with a focus on both qualitative and quantitative assessments of commodity markets.
  • Experience in power market analysis, especially within ERCOT, is preferred.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Bloomberg.
  • Familiarity with data integration tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SQL.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Visual Basic, Python, or R are advantageous.
  • Experience in developing models for evaluating business or trading decisions.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Business-oriented mindset with a flexible approach and strong teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Willingness to travel for business as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Accounting, or a related field is required. An advanced degree or certification is preferred.

Experience: Relevant experience in natural gas analysis, commodities trading, risk management, or finance is essential.
  • Analyst: At least one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Senior Analyst: At least three (3) years of relevant experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role is primarily office-based but may involve time-sensitive tasks and collaboration with others. Occasional travel may be required.
