POSITION SUMMARY
The Analyst in Fundamentals and Trading Analytics plays a pivotal role within Cheniere's Gas Supply and Trading division, focusing on developing and sustaining analytical models that guide both short-term and long-term strategies. This position emphasizes the Texas power market, particularly ERCOT, alongside the natural gas markets relevant to the organization. Key responsibilities encompass data collection, model development, and effective communication of fundamental insights to various stakeholders, including senior management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Construct and uphold a detailed ERCOT power market perspective, addressing supply and demand trends, regional dynamics, short-term market fluctuations, and regulatory considerations.
- Examine and relay the primary factors influencing US gas market fundamentals, including production patterns and infrastructure effects.
- Formulate and maintain analytical frameworks that assist the Supply & Trading team's decision-making processes.
- Analyze the key elements affecting US and ERCOT power market fundamentals, such as demand trends and regulatory influences.
- Create presentations that effectively communicate the Gas Supply & Trading group's strategies and outcomes to a wide audience, including senior management and external clients.
- Support ongoing activities by generating regular outlooks on US gas and power markets, with a specific focus on ERCOT.
- Develop an understanding of the factors impacting the Supply & Trading group's profitability, identifying significant shifts that could affect performance.
- Anticipate the need for new analytical models to ensure the team is well-prepared for market developments.
- Enhance internal tools to improve analysis capabilities.
- Monitor maintenance, new infrastructure, and regulations that could influence pricing at key locations.
- Assist traders with profit and loss reporting, including the development of new analytical tools.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Supply & Trading team's various supply positions.
- Collaborate with the Transport and Storage team to foresee fundamental factors that may impact long-term infrastructure decisions.
- Coordinate with other analytical and strategic teams within Cheniere as necessary.
- Participate in industry events to foster valuable business relationships.
- Address various ad hoc requests as needed.
- Additional tasks may be assigned as business needs evolve.
Knowledge:
- Experience in fundamental analysis of US natural gas and power markets is preferred, with exposure to ERCOT being a plus. Experience in trading, risk management, or research roles in commodities or financial markets is also valuable.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, and the ability to adapt to new software.
- Strong analytical capabilities with a focus on qualitative and quantitative assessments of commodity markets.
- Preferred experience in power market analysis, especially within ERCOT.
- High proficiency in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Bloomberg.
- Familiarity with data integration tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SQL.
- Programming skills in languages such as Visual Basic, Python, or R are advantageous.
- Experience in developing models for business or trading evaluations.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Able to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
- Willingness to travel for business as required.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Accounting, or related fields. Advanced degrees or certifications are preferred.
Experience: Relevant experience in natural gas analysis, commodities trading, or finance, with specific analytical responsibilities.
- Analyst: Minimum of one (1) year of experience.
- Senior Analyst: Minimum of three (3) years of experience.
- This role is typically office-based but may involve time-sensitive tasks and collaboration with others.
- May encounter stressful situations.
- Remote work may be required, including evenings and weekends.
- Travel may be necessary as business demands.
