Position Overview

The Kentucky Personnel Cabinet is seeking a dedicated Pretrial Services Specialist to join our team within the Administrative Office of the Courts. This role is essential in ensuring that individuals awaiting trial are treated fairly and justly, adhering to the principle of presumed innocence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct interviews with defendants in custody within 24 hours of their admission.
  • Perform necessary assessments to evaluate defendants' situations.
  • Provide recommendations to trial courts regarding pretrial release options, including supervision and diversion programs.
  • Oversee compliance for clients released under specific conditions or those referred to diversion initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit comprehensive reports to relevant authorities.
  • Compile statistical data for the preparation of monthly performance reports.
  • Facilitate access to community resources for diversion and conditional release.
  • Represent the department in court as required.
  • Prepare affidavits of indigency for judicial review.
  • Input data into the Pretrial Release Information Management System (PRIMS).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree is required.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary; however, candidates with an Associate's Degree and two years of relevant experience or a High School Diploma with four years of related experience will be considered.

Special Requirements: Candidates must successfully pass an FBI background check to obtain NCIC certification and must be able to work within detention facilities. Maintaining NCIC certification is mandatory.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based within a detention center, involving supervision and case management of adult criminal defendants and offenders. Some travel may be required.
