Position Overview:

The Lead Supervisor of Locomotive Operations is responsible for overseeing engine and train service teams to guarantee the secure and effective functioning of locomotives and trains within designated sectors. This role entails providing direction, mentorship, and support to engineers and conductors while ensuring adherence to established rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with train orders, bulletins, wayside signals, and railroad operating protocols.
  • Facilitate the development, training, and execution of regulatory plans as per Title 49, CFR, Part 240/242.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant General Manager of Rail Operations and coordinate with Safety, Training, and Compliance Managers to uphold all relevant regulations.

Core Duties:

  • Monitor team members for adherence to operational standards and regulations.
  • Address non-compliance issues consistently and fairly.
  • Manage train operations to enhance on-time performance and propose improvements.
  • Respond effectively to service interruptions within the area of responsibility.
  • Enforce safety protocols rigorously.
  • Oversee locomotive engineer and conductor certification processes.
  • Administer recertification courses and operational training in collaboration with the Training Manager.
  • Conduct efficiency assessments and maintain comprehensive employee records in conjunction with Compliance Managers.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety briefings and monitor compliance with safety standards.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in English communication, both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of FRA regulations and operational guidelines.
  • Familiarity with the physical layout and functioning of the rail system.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations effectively.
  • Competence in operating various locomotive types in compliance with established guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of an approved GCOR Training Program within the last three years.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience in an FRA-regulated environment.
  • Seven years of experience as a railroad engineer in an FRA-regulated setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct inspections and carry necessary equipment.
  • Capable of working extended periods on foot in various environments.
  • Occasional desk work and computer use.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
