Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a critical role in The Ohio State University's operations, responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment. This position requires a high level of expertise in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, steam, chiller water, medical gas, and elevators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and recommend equipment performance standards to ensure effective operations in assigned areas.
  • Review and implement university sustainability standards within building design standards, focusing on mechanical systems.
  • Work independently as an engineering expert and advisor on projects, utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Provide leadership and development in support of Facilities Operations and Development's goals and mission.
  • May be required to work varying hours, including 24-hour emergency calls.
Requirements
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 4 years of mechanical engineering experience as a professional engineer
  • Considerable computer skills in engineering and office software
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8 years of experience in HVAC/plumbing/fire protection/Steam and Heating Hot Water design, energy modeling, and life cycle analysis
  • Considerable experience in construction projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated competence in technical and interpersonal skills required to meet job expectations
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE, ASME, ANSI, OBBC, OMC, OPC, and other regulatory agency requirements for compliance
