Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation therapy treatments to patients.
  • Confirm prescribed treatment doses prior to administration, ensuring accurate treatment fields and angles.
  • Ensure the placement of protective devices to shield healthy tissue from radiation exposure.
  • Position and immobilize patients to guarantee precise treatment delivery, maintaining constant visual and intercom contact during procedures.
  • Monitor patients for any unusual reactions and report abnormal conditions to the radiation oncologist.
  • Document treatment details in the patient's medical records.
  • Provide verification films for each patient treated.
  • Review treatment records regularly for any mathematical or documentation errors.
  • Deliver appropriate education to patients and their families.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited radiation therapy technology program. Certification in Radiation Therapy is required.

Licensure

  • ARRT Board certification and active participation in a professional society is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
