Key ResponsibilitiesThe Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering exceptional, patient-focused respiratory care in alignment with departmental standards and practices. As an integral member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist will:
- Administer various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures.
- Monitor patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Provide critical care therapy modalities and perform arterial punctures and blood gas analyses.
- Respond to emergencies, including cardiopulmonary arrests and trauma situations.
- Maintain and manage respiratory equipment.
- Deliver specialized services within the department.
Education:
- High School Diploma required.
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program.
Experience:
- Preferred: One year of experience in critical care.
- Experience with neonatal and pediatric critical care is a plus.
- Knowledge of floor care, mechanical ventilation, and pulmonary function testing.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Virginia Respiratory Therapist License required.
- NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist credentials.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- NRP and PALS certifications preferred.
