This RoleWSP is embarking on a search for a Senior Lead Geologist (VP Level) for our office in Richmond, Virginia.
Engage in projects with our Site Assessment and Remediation Earth & Environment Team and contribute to a growing organization that fulfills our clients' objectives and resolves their challenges.
Your responsibilities will include providing high-level technical support and direction for the collection, identification, compilation, and analysis of geological data from various sources, including soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air/vapor.
You will plan and execute subsurface investigation projects, due diligence assessments, and other environmental inquiries. It is essential to ensure that documentation and recommendations accurately reflect the results of geological analyses and address long-term risks to ecological and human health.
Assist project leadership with environmental site assessments, corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, and treatment, disposal, and/or onsite remediation activities.
Ensure that responsibilities are delivered with a quality level that meets or exceeds industry standards.
Your ContributionsGuide data collection efforts for extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from various matrices, including soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and others for projects, investigations, and surveys.
Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
Lead site investigations, oversee subsurface boring and trenching, and monitor groundwater and extraction well installations.
Prepare complex data visualizations such as mineral charts, soil analyses, groundwater modeling, geological maps, cross-sections, and other illustrations.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements concerning data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
Draft comprehensive technical reports and presentations that articulate research findings and recommendations aimed at preventing, controlling, remedying, or cleaning up chemical and environmental issues and contamination.
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geological, hydrogeological, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, contributing to the development of action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.
Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
Engage with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Develop action plans for mid to larger-scale pollution, corrosion, hazardous waste, and environmental control projects and programs.
Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to provide innovative solutions for clients.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a closely related field.
10+ years of experience as a Geologist.
Proficient in geological research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.
Strong understanding of reducing and eliminating hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
In-depth knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Experience in soil and groundwater sampling via drilling methods, including direct-push and hollow-stem auger.
Project management experience with small to mid-level projects, including tracking hours and expenses.
Experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.
Experience with UST investigations and remediation, including hydrocarbon-impacted sites.
Experience evaluating vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas per DTSC and EPA guidelines.
Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.
Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently while providing guidance and leadership to junior team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Highly proficient in technical writing, office automation, and communication software.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to derive conclusions from testing results and data analysis, identifying cost-effective responses to minimize waste and conserve resources.
Effective at coordinating and directing field personnel, such as subcontracted drillers and excavation contractors, to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
Willingness to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be necessary based on project needs.
Master's Degree is preferred.
Essential professional licensure/certification.
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).
