About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team at the Downtown Women's Center. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing culturally responsive services to women and gender-expansive individuals experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engagement and Outreach: Perform field-based outreach to engage with community members, assess needs, and provide resources and support.
  • Peer Support: Develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships and provide vision-driven hope and encouragement to support individuals in their housing and connect them to the community.
  • Advocacy and Liaison: Serve as an advocate and liaison for clients in accessing needed resources, including benefits, basic needs, and housing.
  • Case Management: Maintain a small caseload of up to 10 Outreach and Engagement participants and participate in developing service plans and attending regular multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide weekly and monthly reports to the Supervisor as needed and assigned, and serve as an ambassador of the Downtown Women's Center and its mission and values by participating in community meetings and events.
Requirements
  • Lived Experience: Lived experience and familiarity with the Skid Row community are strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Education and Experience: Required education and experience include a high school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
