A Peer Support Specialist for Substance Use will collaborate with both behavioral health and primary care teams to provide services aimed at assisting clients in making positive lifestyle choices. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Peer Support Specialist will perform a variety of essential functions, including but not limited to:
- Facilitating educational and support sessions utilizing effective recovery and resilience strategies.
- Delivering educational and support services in both individual and group formats.
- Implementing evidence-based self-management training to address chronic health conditions and enhance overall well-being.
- Planning and conducting educational, supportive, recreational, or social activities tailored to the specific needs of service recipients.
- Assisting clients in setting recovery goals and developing actionable steps to achieve those goals.
- Employing Motivational Interviewing techniques to enhance service delivery.
- Identifying obstacles clients face in accessing health services and collaborating with them to create strategies to overcome these challenges.
- Guiding clients through the healthcare system.
- Providing transportation assistance for clients attending program-related activities as needed.
- Maintaining professional relationships with clients and colleagues while upholding appropriate interpersonal boundaries.
- Referring clients to appropriate staff for issues beyond the scope of peer services.
- Engaging clients in a supportive, educational, and hopeful manner.
- Ensuring safety within the program environment.
- Keeping accurate service and program records as mandated by regulatory bodies.
- Participating in scheduled supervision meetings and additional training as required.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY ROLE:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- A High School diploma or equivalent GED is required; an Associate Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Applicants must self-identify as current or former consumers of mental health services, defined as individuals who have experienced a diagnosable mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder that has significantly impacted their daily functioning.
