The Controls & Compliance Manager will spearhead the internal controls related to financial reporting, ensure compliance across subsidiaries, maintain readiness for internal controls, and drive process enhancements along with various compliance initiatives. This role will act as a subject matter expert, collaborating with control owners throughout our operational processes. Key responsibilities include strengthening and utilizing both internal and external partnerships to fulfill the annual controls agenda.

To qualify for this position, candidates should possess extensive experience and comprehension of all facets of internal controls, particularly within financial information technology systems for a complex, high-growth, multi-disciplinary organization. A profound understanding of the COSO 2013 framework and SEC/PCAOB regulations is essential, alongside a proven capability to design and oversee an effective global risk-based internal control framework.

We seek seasoned candidates who have previously held comparable roles in large public corporations or have experience in a similar capacity within the advisory divisions of a Big 4 public accounting firm, specifically serving Fortune 500 clients for over 5 years. Demonstrated success in collaborative problem-solving will be a requisite, as this remains a continuous expectation for this role. Candidates should be able to illustrate their status as top performers at their respective levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementing control strategies while ensuring sufficient controls over critical components of the ecosystem.
  • Leading control design and execution in partnership with engineering and business teams.
  • Conducting thorough analyses of process areas to identify risks and controls pertinent to financial reporting.
  • Advising on and crafting controls and compliance programs.
  • Providing ongoing assistance to process owners/control owners and cross-functional teams to guarantee effective design and implementation of controls.
  • Engaging in annual reviews with process/application/control owners and external auditors.
  • Assisting in the assessment of identified control deficiencies and overseeing remediation efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in finance or a related analytical field.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA certification.
  • Familiarity with internal control frameworks (specifically COSO) to evaluate control design and operational effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification.
  • Experience in accounting management within Big Four firms serving Fortune 500 clients.
  • Experience in researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions.

Our compensation reflects the labor market across various US geographic regions. The base salary for this position ranges from $85,900/year in our lowest geographic market to $179,500/year in our highest geographic market. Compensation is influenced by multiple factors, including market location, and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company, and depending on the position, equity, sign-on bonuses, and other forms of compensation may be included as part of a comprehensive compensation package, alongside a full spectrum of medical, financial, and other benefits.
