Position Overview

The Medical College of Georgia, within the Department of Surgery at Augusta University, is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor specializing in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery. Ideal candidates will possess board certification or eligibility in General Surgery, complemented by additional fellowship training in Trauma and/or Surgical Critical Care. Augusta University is recognized as a leading integrated academic medical center, housing a Level 1 Trauma Center that manages approximately 3000 trauma activations, 1800 trauma admissions, and 1200 General Surgery operations annually. The institution has a notable 18% volume of penetrating trauma cases. Our surgical residency program is robust, supported by advanced practice providers and two surgical critical care fellows each year. Responsibilities include managing Trauma, Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Units (shared with Anesthesia), Emergency General Surgery, and Elective General Surgery cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and enhance clinical practice in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
  • Boost clinic visits and surgical volumes associated with Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
  • Engage in the call schedule alongside the Divisions of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
  • Instruct and mentor general surgery residents in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.


Qualifications Required

MD/DO degree or equivalent; candidates must be board eligible in General Surgery and Trauma and Acute Care Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, with additional fellowship training in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery; a minimum of 5 years in general surgery residency and an additional year of fellowship in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.

Assistant Professor- Early career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.

Associate Professor- Mid-career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent training and experience.

Professor- Senior faculty member with a minimum of five years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent training and experience.

All faculty employment qualifications for USG institutions and all academic ranks must align with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) standards for institutional accreditation, demonstrating teaching ability, scholarly activity, and successful experience.

Compensation and Benefits

This position operates on a fiscal year basis and requires year-round commitment.

The full-time equivalent (FTE) for this role is 1.0, classified as full-time.

Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, subject to funding availability.

Rank and salary will be determined at the time of hire based on various factors, including experience, education, credentials, specialty, and training, while considering internal equity and market data.
