Position Overview

The Medical College of Georgia, within the Department of Surgery at Augusta University, is on the lookout for a dedicated full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor specializing in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery. Ideal candidates will possess board certification or eligibility in General Surgery, complemented by fellowship training in Trauma and/or Surgical Critical Care. Augusta University stands as a prominent integrated academic medical center featuring a Level 1 Trauma Center, managing a significant volume of trauma cases annually.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and develop a clinical practice focused on Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
  • Enhance clinic attendance and surgical activity related to Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
  • Engage in the on-call schedule alongside the Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery divisions.
  • Instruct and mentor general surgery residents in the areas of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.


Qualifications Required

MD/DO degree or equivalent; candidates must be board eligible in general surgery and Trauma and Acute Care Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, with additional fellowship training in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery; completion of a 5-year general surgery residency and an additional year of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery fellowship.

Assistant Professor- Entry-level faculty member with suitable postgraduate training.

Associate Professor- Mid-level faculty member with a minimum of five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent training and experience.

Professor- Senior faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training and experience.

All faculty employment qualifications for USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

- In alignment with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) standards for institutional accreditation;

- Demonstrated teaching capability;

- Evidence of scholarly activity and proficiency in all assigned duties;

- Successful experience (waived for those newly entering the academic field who meet all other criteria); and,

- Personal qualities evaluated through interviews, comprehensive biographical data, and references.

Compensation and Benefits

This position operates on a fiscal year basis and requires year-round commitment.

The full-time equivalent (FTE) for this role is 1.0, classified as full-time.

Compensation for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor ranks is commensurate with education, experience, and accomplishments, subject to funding availability.

Full-time employees with over six months of successful employment may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire based on various factors including experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, and internal equity.

Advancement through faculty ranks at Augusta University occurs through the annual Promotion and Tenure process, with eligibility typically every five years.
