Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member at various academic ranks including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The successful applicant will be a board certified or board eligible, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with a specialization in retina services, joining a well-established faculty practice. The candidate will provide comprehensive clinical care for both adult and pediatric patients in various settings.

In alignment with the mission of the institution, the ideal candidate should possess a strong interest in education and research, along with a personal career development plan that will be actively pursued post-appointment. The candidate is expected to contribute to an academic surgical practice, engaging in resident education and participating in clinical or basic science research.

The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to patient care and show enthusiasm for fostering an inclusive educational environment. The ability to effectively engage with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff is highly valued, as the institution aims to deliver compassionate patient care, advance the field of Ophthalmology through research, and train future healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee clinical practices for a diverse patient population at a Level I Trauma Center.
  • Manage a private practice and make clinical decisions during service hours.
  • Advise on operational policies including purchasing, managed care participation, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Share after-hours call responsibilities for patient care, in addition to regular office appointments.
  • Engage in community service activities, including public speaking and special clinical programs.
  • Ensure compliance with risk management, coding, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Maintain a safe and alert working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MD or DO from an accredited institution; completion of an accredited Ophthalmology Residency is required.

Board certification or eligibility, along with completion of a Retina Fellowship; must be licensed to practice in the relevant state with a minimum of five years of experience.

Academic ranks:
  • Assistant Professor - Early career faculty with appropriate postgraduate training.
  • Associate Professor - Mid-career faculty with at least five years at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent experience.
  • Professor - Senior faculty with a minimum of five years at the Associate Professor level or equivalent experience.


All faculty must meet the qualifications set forth by the institution and demonstrate:
  • Compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Teaching ability.
  • Research activity and capability in assigned duties.
  • Successful experience, with exceptions for new entrants to academia meeting other criteria.
  • Desirable personal qualities assessed through interviews and recommendations.


Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position with a year-round commitment.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and achievements, subject to available funding.
