Job Description

American Conservatory Theater is a leading cultural institution in the San Francisco Bay Area, dedicated to bringing artists and communities together to inspire and provoke. As the Associate Director of Engagement, you will play a critical role in fostering meaningful relationships with diverse communities, with a focus on those historically excluded from and underrepresented in live theater.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and build community relationships to strengthen our connection with the San Francisco community.
  • Drive and ensure ongoing leadership of community programs and partnerships.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with individuals and organizations across San Francisco, with a focus on Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, LGBTQ+, veteran, and disabled communities.
  • Listen to community priorities and integrate them into our work.
  • Manage and maintain existing partnerships and develop new ones through special projects, community events, and our Bold Access Initiative.
  • Collaborate with community leaders to design and coordinate programs that respond to community interests and needs.
  • Oversee and produce events and performances for existing initiatives and community programs.
  • Coordinate community and artistic mainstage events and projects.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3-4 years' experience in event producing, program management, and/or community organizing.
  • Demonstrated experience working with communities historically excluded/underrepresented in live theater, with a focus on the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Ability to work independently and take projects from conception to completion.
  • Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills, as well as strong writing, public-speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills and experience, with the ability to be detail-oriented while maintaining a big-picture vision and consistency.
  • Innovative thinking, adaptability, and comfort with supporting new ideas and projects.
  • Comfort working digitally, with the ability to plan and execute digital events.
  • Capacity to assume leadership of existing community programs and co-create a long-term vision for community engagement at American Conservatory Theater.
  • Capacity to provide onsite event management and work days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Experience working in the Bay Area arts community, including culturally-specific work.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, theater, nonprofit management, and/or a related field, or equivalent experience.
