KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver direct nutrition services to individual clients and small groups enrolled in the WIC Program. Certify WIC participants; communicate WIC services to the community; function in various roles as needed; adhere to ARC WIC policies and procedures; and perform related duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Bilingual in Spanish and experience in WIC Customer Service.

Provide nutrition education to WIC participants to ensure high-quality service:

  • Assess the medical/nutritional risk of applicants/participants by evaluating anthropometric, biochemical, dietary, and other health-related data.
  • Prescribe supplemental foods.
  • Implement the Nutrition Education Plan and related curricula.
  • Make decisions regarding participant disqualification.
  • Coordinate and deliver individual and group nutrition education consistent with participants' categories, languages, and nutrition intervention levels in the program - both in-person and virtually.
  • Communicate with participants' healthcare providers as necessary for the continuation of quality service.
  • Provide counsel on nutritional and health-related issues in an empathetic manner, maintaining sound nutritional practices and participant confidentiality.
  • Offer information about community resources to participants.
  • Support co-workers and participants by working in various office roles.
  • Accurately interpret WIC policies and procedures both formally and informally.
  • Contact participants to reschedule missed appointments.
  • Meet required WIC breastfeeding competencies.

Promote and communicate WIC services to the community (90%):

  • Engage in outreach activities as needed.

Carry out any additional assignments required to fulfill the mission of the American Red Cross and WIC (10%):

  • Comply with all fiscal and operational requirements set by the American Red Cross and the State WIC Branch, including those outlined in the Red Cross employee handbook.
  • Contribute to the agency's caseload, breastfeeding promotion and support, and other departmental goals.
  • Implement changes as determined by audits in a positive and professional manner.
  • Receive training in Disaster Response in accordance with skill set.

COMPENSATION: The hourly range for this position is (CA): $19.46/hr. - $20.72/hr.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS
Education: Bachelor's degree required in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience: Up to 1 year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Management Experience: n/a
Skills & Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to collect and research data. Identify and resolve problems promptly. Manage challenging or emotional client situations. Respond to service and assistance requests. Exhibit sound and accurate judgment. Work with integrity and ethics. Maintain confidentiality. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Travel: Travel may be required. A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small space and sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
