ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Deliver direct nutrition services to individual clients and small groups enrolled in the WIC Program. Certify WIC participants; communicate WIC services to the community; adapt to various roles as required; adhere to ARC WIC policies and procedures; and execute related responsibilities as assigned.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Bilingual in Spanish and experience in WIC Customer Service
YOUR ROLE IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Provide nutrition education to WIC participants to ensure high-quality service
- Assess the medical/nutritional risk of applicants/participants by analyzing anthropometric, biochemical, dietary, and other health-related data
- Recommend supplemental foods
- Execute the Nutrition Education Plan and associated curricula
- Make determinations to disqualify participants
- Coordinate and deliver individual and group nutrition education tailored to participants' categories, languages, and nutrition intervention levels in the program - both in-person and virtually
- Engage with participants' healthcare providers as necessary to maintain quality service
- Offer guidance on nutritional and health-related issues with empathy, maintaining sound nutritional practices and participant confidentiality
- Provide information about community resources to participants
- Support co-workers and participants in various office roles
- Accurately interpret WIC policies and procedures in both formal and informal settings
- Contact participants to reschedule missed appointments
- Meet required WIC breastfeeding competencies
- Engage in outreach activities as needed
- Comply with all fiscal and operational requirements set by the American Red Cross and the State WIC Branch, including those outlined in the Red Cross employee handbook.
- Contribute to the agency's caseload, breastfeeding promotion and support, and other departmental objectives.
- Implement changes as determined by audits in a constructive and professional manner
- Trained in Disaster Response according to skill set

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS
Education: Bachelor's degree required in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience: Up to 1 year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Skills & Abilities: Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to collect and analyze data. Identify and resolve issues promptly. Manage challenging or emotional client situations. Respond to service and assistance requests. Demonstrate sound and accurate judgment. Work with integrity and ethics. Maintain confidentiality. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
Travel: Travel may be necessary. A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.
* A combination of the candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements as long as the total years equate to the minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small space and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
