KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver direct nutrition services to individual clients and small groups enrolled in the WIC Program. Responsibilities include certifying WIC participants, interpreting WIC services to the community, fulfilling various roles as needed, adhering to ARC WIC policies and procedures, and performing related duties as assigned.

YOUR ROLE IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Provide nutrition education to WIC participants to ensure quality service:

  • Assess the medical/nutritional risk of applicants/participants by analyzing anthropometric, biochemical, dietary, and other health-related data.
  • Prescribe supplemental foods.
  • Implement the Nutrition Education Plan and associated curricula.
  • Make informed decisions regarding participant disqualification.
  • Coordinate and deliver individual and group nutrition education tailored to participants' categories, languages, and nutrition intervention levels—both in-person and virtually.
  • Communicate with participants' healthcare providers as necessary to maintain quality service.
  • Provide guidance on nutritional and health-related issues empathetically, ensuring sound nutritional practices and participant confidentiality.
  • Inform participants about community resources.
  • Support co-workers and participants by working in various office roles.
  • Accurately interpret WIC policies and procedures in both formal and informal settings.
  • Contact participants to reschedule missed appointments.
  • Meet required WIC breastfeeding competencies.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Promote and explain WIC services to the community (90%):

  • Engage in outreach activities as needed.

Fulfill additional assignments to support the mission of the American Red Cross and WIC (10%):

  • Comply with all fiscal and operational requirements set by the American Red Cross and the State WIC Branch, including those outlined in the Red Cross employee handbook.
  • Contribute to the agency's caseload, breastfeeding promotion, and other departmental goals.
  • Implement changes as dictated by audits in a constructive and professional manner.
  • Receive training in Disaster Response according to skill set.

COMPENSATION

The hourly wage for this position is (CA): $19.46/hr. - $20.72/hr.

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned with the specific geographic location where the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may influence your actual salary include your specific skills, years of experience, and comparisons to other employees in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience: Up to 1 year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Management Experience: Not applicable.
Skills & Abilities: Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to collect and analyze data. Identify and resolve issues promptly. Manage challenging or emotional client situations. Respond to service requests and assistance. Demonstrate sound and accurate judgment. Uphold integrity and ethics. Maintain confidentiality. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.

Travel: Travel may be necessary. A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small space and sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
