Cancer Registrar I Job Description

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is a leading cancer research and treatment center seeking a skilled Cancer Registrar I to join our team. As a Cancer Registrar I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of cancer data, supporting our mission to discover new cures and make life beyond cancer a reality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough medical record reviews to identify and abstract cancer cases
  • Ensure compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) and Washington State Cancer Registry (WSCR) guidelines and requirements
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to resolve case find discrepancies and ensure accurate data collection
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of cancer registry resources, such as CAForum and SEER Inquiries
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date on cancer registry standards and best practices
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year of previous cancer registry or medical records experience
  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) and/or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience working in cancer registry or related field
  • Knowledge of NAACCR data items, Solid Tumor Rules, and SEER rules and standards
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system and CNEXT database
