About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cancer Registrar I to join our team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. As a Cancer Registrar I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of cancer data, which is essential for advancing cancer research and improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough medical record reviews to identify and abstract cancer cases
  • Ensure compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) and Washington State Cancer Registry (WSCR) guidelines and requirements
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve case find discrepancies and improve data quality
  • Participate in monthly Cancer Registry meetings and contribute to reportability discussions
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of cancer registry reference materials
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year of previous cancer registry or medical records experience
  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) and/or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience working in a cancer registry or related field
  • Knowledge of NAACCR data items, Solid Tumor Rules, and SEER rules and standards
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system and CNEXT database
