Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at the Hawaii State Department of Education. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing mental health services to students in various schools within the Windward District.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and identify students' behavioral needs through professional protocols, including personal interviews, discussions with school personnel, and review of written records.
  • Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention/management plans to address problem behavior and promote positive outcomes.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and other professionals to ensure effective implementation of behavior intervention/management plans.
  • Provide counseling and skill training sessions to individuals and groups to achieve behavior management goals.
  • Conduct regular sessions with students and their families to improve functioning and promote positive relationships.
  • Advise school personnel on the use of effective techniques and strategies to support behavior intervention/management plans.
  • Participate in the integration of services to students in various settings to promote positive outcomes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or social work.
  • One year of progressively responsible professional post-Master's work experience providing counseling and/or therapy to individuals and/or their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Possession of a current National Certified Counselor credential from the National Board of Certified Counselors.
