Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to provide services to students at various schools within the Windward District. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or social work, and at least one year of experience providing counseling and/or therapy to individuals and/or their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and develop individualized behavior intervention/management plans to address problem behavior in students.
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel and other professionals to implement behavior intervention/management plans.
  • Conduct behavior management counseling and skill training sessions for individuals and groups.
  • Provide crisis prevention and intervention services, as well as lifestyle interventions to promote long-term maintenance of alternative skills.
  • Collaborate with families to develop and maintain appropriate structure within the home, improve parenting skills, and facilitate effective communication and problem-solving.
  • Advise school personnel and others on the use of appropriate techniques and strategies to facilitate achievement of behavior intervention/management plan goals.
  • Participate in the integration of services to students in various settings.
  • Prepare and maintain individual case records, correspondence, and other reports in accordance with established rules and policies.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or social work.
  • At least one year of experience providing counseling and/or therapy to individuals and/or their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel and other professionals.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Current National Certified Counselor credential from the National Board of Certified Counselors.
Salary and Benefits

The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. The Hawaii State Department of Education offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
