Job Summary

The Relocation Coordinator is a key member of the Relocation team at Housing Opportunities Unlimited. This role is responsible for overseeing daily relocation tasks while working closely with residents to prepare and assist them with relocation activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct surveys to understand residents' relocation needs and preferences.
  • Participate in resident and community meetings to discuss relocation processes and resident rights.
  • Prepare and distribute notices to affected households regarding the relocation program.
  • Provide relocation counseling and assistance in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate information flow between HOU, Property Management, clients, and residents.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to clients, directors, and the development team.
  • Create agendas for weekly relocation meetings and circulate meeting minutes.
  • Notify residents of their move date and provide ongoing support to ensure they are prepared.
  • Check-in with residents at various stages prior to their move date.
  • Assist with arranging moves, including packing/unpacking assistance and utility disconnection/reconnection.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise moves and associated tasks.
  • Work with construction, property management, development, and moving contractors to ensure residents have vacated units in accordance with the demolition/renovation and relocation schedule.
  • Establish procedures to minimize resident property damage.
  • Interphase with residents' family/friends and social services staff to ensure seamless provision of services.
  • Represent HOU to local, state, federal agencies, and community groups as necessary.
  • Participate in weekly supervision and scheduled site meetings with the APM.
  • Ensure relocation files contain required documentation and data tracking systems are updated regularly.
  • Complete tasks identified in the site work plan and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Identify and respond to special needs and accommodation issues.
  • Counsel and assist households who are wholly/partially ineligible for relocation benefits due to immigration status.
  • Provide information on local childcare and transportation options, as well as other social services and amenities in the new neighborhoods.
  • Assist households with school-aged children with school transfer processes.
  • Coordinate with Section 8 Department regarding unit inspections and leasing procedures (if applicable).
  • Convene info sessions and provide information on how to be a good neighbor, Section 8 process, budgeting/energy conversion, and working with private landlords.
  • Assist residents with good standing requirements regarding rent payment and housekeeping.

Requirements:

  • Fluent bilingual speaker (Spanish).
  • Experience in relocation services, social services, customer service, or similar fields.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Able to work with diverse populations and communicate effectively with various stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to work under strict time constraints and on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understands the importance of teamwork and can be an integral team member.
  • Self-directed, able to work independently and multitask.
  • A positive attitude and a propensity to learn and take on more tasks and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs, as well as database applications.
  • Ability to be a creative problem-solver.
  • Able to provide interpreting and written translations (if specific language required due to resident population).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
