Position Overview

The Health Information Management Clerk I plays a crucial role in the meticulous handling of discharge medical records, ensuring their completeness, accessibility, and confidentiality. This position involves the precise entry of patient information into the organization's information systems and the generation of various reports on a daily and monthly basis.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct thorough audits of medical records and apply ICD-9-CM coding for all diagnoses.
  2. Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail while managing high-pressure situations. Previous experience in a medical records department or a healthcare setting is advantageous.
  3. Accurately input patient admission and discharge details into the master patient index, ensuring quality and consistency.
  4. Retrieve, organize, and analyze discharged patient records in compliance with established standards and regulations.
  5. Respond to all requests for medical records, including subpoenas and court orders, as required.
  6. Safeguard the custody and security of discharged medical records at all times.
  7. Participate in special projects and studies as assigned.
  8. Assist in the formulation and evaluation of departmental policies and procedures.
  9. Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  10. Adhere to schedules for staff and phone coverage.
  11. Fulfill additional tasks as directed by Administration or immediate supervisors.

Physical Requirements

This role involves bending, sitting, and lifting items up to 10 pounds. Repetitive tasks include typing and reviewing information on a computer monitor.

Qualifications

  1. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. At least one year of prior experience in medical records is preferred.
  3. A working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy is desirable.
