POSITION: MATERIALS PROCESSING SPECIALIST

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily preparation, programming, operation, maintenance, and oversight of air and vacuum furnaces.
  • Programming and operation of basic robotic systems and turntables.
  • Machining of samples and fixtures utilizing machine shop tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, shears, and saws.
  • Maintenance and application of precision calibrated instruments including micrometers and calipers.
  • Thorough documentation of testing parameters, equipment configurations, and other relevant variables.
  • General laboratory maintenance including cleaning, organization, and inventory control.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of machine shop equipment.
  • Facilitating the transport of samples across the SpaceX campus among engineers and testing facilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in engineering, mathematics, or science, or one of the following:
    • Three years of experience in robot operation/programming.
    • Three years of experience in programming/operating air and vacuum furnace equipment.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and swiftly adapt to changing roles in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Atlassian JIRA, and work order systems.
  • Experience in brazing.
  • Familiarity with various hand tools and power tools.
  • Advanced skills in robot and turntable programming.
  • Experience with FANUC robot programming.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication abilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work off-shifts and be available for overtime and weekends as needed with minimal notice.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for furnace, metal processing, and machine shop environments.
  • Capability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Physical activities including lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.

  • To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or eligible to obtain the necessary authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
