We are in search of a Head of Sales for Gaming Advertising Solutions to become a foundational member of our sales team, specifically targeting the eastern region. We seek a sales executive who possesses a deep passion for gaming and the gaming industry, with a focus on assisting game companies in effectively marketing to their most dedicated players. This position involves working in a startup-like environment to establish and expand a new advertising business line at Discord for game publishers and developers in the eastern region. You will leverage your previous experience in advertising, marketing, and media to combine strategic business acumen, relationships with game publishers and agencies, product knowledge, and the ability to cultivate a substantial, recurring client portfolio.

This senior leadership position allows you to join the advertising business at its inception, playing a crucial role in shaping Discord's product and business strategy within the media and marketing sectors. You will report directly to the Head of Gaming Partnerships & Sales and will manage a team that will grow alongside the marketing solutions division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve revenue and account objectives for the eastern territory by
    • identifying and pursuing media buying opportunities with game publishers, studios, and their media agencies
    • developing and strengthening relationships with key game publishers and their media agencies
    • negotiating and finalizing deals
    • assisting clients in reaching their business and marketing objectives through Discord's offerings
  • Design and implement effective and repeatable sales processes. Utilize an account planning approach to prioritize accounts, enhance revenue, educate clients, lead strategic discussions, and navigate complex relationships.
  • Create and deliver persuasive sales presentations and proposals using both internal and external data.
  • Become proficient in Discord's solutions and tailor recommendations to meet diverse client needs.
  • Consult with clients and contribute to marketing and media strategies that enable them to connect with their target audiences on Discord.
  • Exhibit expertise in the gaming, media, and marketing industries to clients, within Discord, and at industry events.
  • Over time, you may also be tasked with team management responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of direct experience in digital advertising and sales within the gaming sector, ideally with a focus on the eastern region of the United States (knowledge of the European market is advantageous).
  • Demonstrated success in meeting account and revenue targets.
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering results for significant territories, books of business, or verticals.
  • Experience in guiding gaming clients through the sales funnel with a comprehensive understanding of their challenges and goals.
  • Established relationships with key marketing decision-makers at game publishers and their agencies in the eastern U.S. and potentially Europe.
  • Ability to analyze data and derive insights to evaluate campaign effectiveness.
  • Capacity to proactively troubleshoot and resolve issues swiftly through appropriate channels.
  • Familiarity with the marketing and advertising technology landscape, including the ability to communicate product requirements and collaborate cross-functionally to address technical challenges for clients.
  • Experience in negotiating and structuring both standard and non-standard advertising agreements.
  • Experience in developing, mentoring, and managing sales teams.
