Job Summary

The Environment of Care & Emergency Management (ECEM) Facility Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the compliance of Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) facilities with various regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission, Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and Texas Commission of Environmental Quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Environment of Care Committee: Facilitate high-level committee meetings with physician and executive participation to ensure effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Ensure Compliance with Accreditation Standards: Verify that assigned facilities adhere to all required standards and develop integrated plans for maintaining continuous compliance.
  • Decontamination Officer: Manage the decontamination team, including training and recruitment, to ensure effective response to hazardous materials incidents.
  • Hazardous Materials Coordinator: Develop, modify, and monitor hazardous materials emergency preparedness plans and coordinate all hazardous material activities for BSWH facilities.
  • Manage Hazardous Chemical Waste Streams: Oversee the management of hazardous chemical waste streams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Indoor Air Quality Studies: Conduct indoor air quality studies and identify corrective actions to ensure a healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Coordinate Joint Commission Activities: Collaborate with other departments, including Public Safety, Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering, to ensure effective compliance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Employee Injury Data Analysis: Review employee injury data with BSWH Safe Choice and develop action plans to prevent future incidents.
  • Construction Meeting Facilitation: Facilitate weekly construction meetings with CBRE, Medco, Epidemiology, and subcontractors to ensure effective project management and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Interim Life Safety and Infection Control Assessments: Conduct interim life safety and infection control assessments for major construction projects and develop action plans to address any deficiencies.
  • Design and Present Training Programs: Develop and present in-service and orientation training programs to ensure that staff are equipped to handle emergency situations and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor compliance of BSWH entities with federal, state, local, and OSHA safety regulations.
Requirements
  • Experience: 1 year of experience in hospital environment of care programs, general safety programs, or emergency management programs.
  • Proficiency in Technology: Proficiency in basic technology and computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to interpret and communicate relevant state and federal rules, regulations, and guidelines to stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication and establish and maintain effective working relationships within the facility, with local and regional health care officials, local, state, and federal agencies, and policy and advisory committees.
