Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Athletics and the Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach at Converse University, the Assistant or Associate Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of a competitive Men's and Women's Soccer program. This role must adhere to NCAA, Conference, and Converse University regulations while maintaining a professional and supportive environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership - (40%)

  • Provide guidance and direction for both the athletic teams and individual athletes.
  • Assist in conducting training sessions and individual coaching.
  • Support the Head Coach in monitoring student-athlete academic performance.
  • Foster team cohesion and promote a unified university spirit.
  • Deliver consistent support and mentorship to student-athletes.
  • Prioritize the retention of student-athletes.
  • Help manage the program's social media presence.
  • Promote the overall well-being of student-athletes.
  • Assist in logistical planning for competitions, including travel and meal arrangements.

Program Oversight - (10%)

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and implement in-season training and evaluate performance.
  • Support off-season training and related activities.
  • Help establish team and individual performance objectives.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and resources.
  • Keep an accurate inventory of uniforms and supplies.
  • Report on facility and equipment needs to the athletics administration.

Recruitment Efforts - (30%)

  • Assist in attracting quality student-athletes through outreach and evaluation.
  • Work with the Head Coach to ensure the team meets its recruitment goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Compliance, Admissions, and Financial Aid during the recruitment process.

Collaboration - (10%)

  • Ensure adherence to Title IX and university policies.
  • Assist in public relations efforts with the Director of Athletic Communications.
  • Understand and comply with university policies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support the Head Coach in managing financial requests in accordance with university policy.
  • Participate in relevant committees as needed.

Community Engagement - (5%)

  • Help build relationships within the community to enhance recruitment and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Engage with local high schools to foster connections.
  • Participate in community service initiatives with staff and student-athletes.
  • Assist in organizing team fundraisers and community events.
  • Represent Converse University at various events as required.

Additional Responsibilities - (5%)

  • Take on game day management duties as necessary.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Head Coach.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
  • Understanding of NCAA regulations.
  • Commitment to a liberal arts educational philosophy.
  • Adherence to the university's service expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of coaching experience at the intercollegiate level.

SUPERVISION: This position reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics and the Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach, requiring independent judgment and decision-making in various situations.

WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

LICENSES: A valid SC Driver's License is required.
