Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Coach for Acrobatics & Tumbling at Converse University is accountable for supporting the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach in executing all aspects of a competitive Acrobatics & Tumbling program. This role is performed in compliance with NCATA, NCAA, Conference, and Converse University standards, ensuring a professional and respectful environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Coach will play a vital role in the management, strategic planning, and execution of the Acrobatics & Tumbling program. This includes assisting in the implementation of all phases of a competitive Division II program while adhering to the governing regulations.

Recruitment - (35%)

  • Support the recruitment of high-caliber student-athletes through direct engagement, assessment of skills, and campus visits.
  • Assist in maintaining the desired squad size by actively recruiting student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Office, Admissions, and Financial Aid during the recruitment process.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of prospective athletes from high schools, junior colleges, and transfer programs.
  • Respond promptly to all inquiries from potential recruits.
  • Proactively organize recruitment schedules throughout the year.
  • Oversee both official and unofficial visits, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Maintain immediate communication with recruits via texts, calls, and emails.

Team Leadership - (30%)

  • Provide guidance and support tailored to the individual needs of team members.
  • Assist in conducting individual training sessions.
  • Help monitor academic performance through study hall sessions.
  • Foster team cohesion and a sense of community within the University.
  • Support the Head Coach in providing consistent guidance to student-athletes.
  • Prioritize the retention of student-athletes as a key objective.
  • Contribute to the management of social media platforms for the program.
  • Assist in promoting the well-being of student-athletes, both physically and emotionally.
  • Support logistical planning for home and away competitions, including travel and meal arrangements.

Program Oversight - (20%)

  • Assist in the upkeep of physical resources and equipment.
  • Help maintain an inventory of uniforms and supplies related to the sport.
  • Report any needs for facility maintenance to the athletics administration.

Community Engagement - (10%)

  • Support the Head Coach in establishing professional relationships within the community to enhance recruitment and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Assist in building connections with local, regional, and national high schools.
  • Participate in community service initiatives alongside staff and student-athletes.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of team fundraising activities.
  • Represent Converse University at relevant conferences and events.

Collaboration - (5%)

  • Ensure adherence to Title IX and University policies.
  • Participate in committees related to campus, conference, NCATA, and NCAA matters as applicable.

Additional Responsibilities - (5%)

  • Assume responsibilities for game day management as required.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Head Coach.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with NCATA regulations is essential.
  • Commitment to a liberal arts educational philosophy.
  • Adherence to the University's Service Expectations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of coaching experience at the intercollegiate level is preferred.

Work Schedule: Flexibility is required, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

Licenses: A valid SC Driver's License is required.

SUPERVISION: The Assistant Coach will report directly to the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach, playing a crucial role in the instruction and development of student-athletes. This position requires independent judgment and decision-making capabilities.
