Position Overview

SUMMARY: M3 Placement is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead our client, the Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA). This role is perfect for a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated professional who demonstrates exceptional leadership and management capabilities while fostering creative solutions.

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will oversee the strategic planning and implementation of programs for this member-focused organization. Your responsibilities will include enhancing member recruitment and retention efforts, as well as nurturing partnerships with affiliated organizations. This full-time, onsite role involves occasional travel and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

LOCATION: Albany, NY

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to significantly boost membership and revenue while maintaining a retention rate of 90-95%.
  • Establish and sustain strong connections with the Board of Directors, board committees, and regional chapter leaders.
  • Propose modifications to existing policies and create new policies that align with the association's mission and the Board's objectives.
  • Manage all contracts and commitments sanctioned by the association.
  • Prepare an annual budget proposal, ensuring the safeguarding and proper management of all association assets and funds. Authorize all expenditures in accordance with the budget.
  • Oversee all communications, collaborating with external public relations and communications consultants.
  • Engage with lobbyists, testify before legislative bodies, meet with legislators and their staff, and conduct media interviews to advocate for the association's legislative agenda.
  • Supervise the creation of content for the quarterly newsletter and timely e-alerts for members.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Committee and investment management firms to achieve financial objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing corporate and program activities.
  • Organize and execute annual meetings (both in-person and livestream), virtual all-member meetings, and hybrid Board of Directors and committee meetings.
  • Deliver presentations to external organizations aimed at building alliances and increasing membership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree; additional education, certifications, or degrees are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in professional membership associations, including 3-5 years in executive management or leadership roles focused on membership recruitment and retention.
  • Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel throughout New York State.
  • Expertise in Program Management, Membership Development, Public Relations/Outreach, Finance and Accounting, and Public Policy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in designing and executing successful recruitment campaigns utilizing direct mail, social media, in-person outreach, events, and other methods that led to significant increases in membership and revenue.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing effective membership retention strategies.
  • Legislative advocacy experience, particularly with the New York State legislature, municipal government, and Congress.
  • Experience in creating and managing annual budgets.
  • Knowledge of association investment management.
  • Acted as an association spokesperson, including providing testimony before legislative committees and participating in media interviews.

Compensation: Base salary range of $90,000 - $120,000
