Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Literacy Program Specialist to join our team at Henrico County Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting schools in the implementation of best practices in reading and writing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a school quality literacy leader to support schools with the implementation of best practices in reading and writing.
  • Collects and analyzes district data to determine areas needing support in the core program.
  • Meet with school teams to analyze and interpret school and teacher level data, utilizing this analysis to identify intervention supports needed.
  • Assist School Quality staff in planning and implementing the school's effort to increase the proficiency of ELA and reading skills for all students as established by their School Support Plans.
  • Visits classrooms to help identify strengths and deficiencies of ELA and reading practices.
  • Provides professional development related to literacy for the district.
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan, model, and deliver current research-based best practices and interventions in reading instruction and be able to assess student responsiveness to those interventions.
  • Model of effective literacy and intervention practices.
  • Provide options for how to support Tier 2 instruction at the high school level.
  • Assist teachers with the development and implementation of instructional strategies that support differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support literacy instruction and student learning.
  • Stay abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective school.
  • Attend professional development and specified training to enhance ELA/Reading content and pedagogical skills.
  • Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, parents, patrons, community agencies, and colleagues.
  • Participates in School Quality meetings, where applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Master's degree is required.
  • Reading Specialist endorsement is preferred.
  • A valid, current teaching license with an endorsement in English is required. (Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license.)
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience in high school ELA is required.
