Position Overview

The Preschool Therapeutic Classroom Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the Lead Educator, Program Administrator, and Clinical Services Manager in delivering effective services within the classroom environment. This position involves engaging in both educational and therapeutic activities tailored to meet the needs of young learners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educational and Therapeutic Engagement: Collaborate with the Lead Educator and Program Administrator to implement educational and therapeutic strategies based on individualized learning plans.
  • Routine Support: Guide children in adhering to daily routines, including arrival procedures, peer interactions, and acclimatization.
  • Fostering Independence: Assist children in developing self-sufficiency during restroom use, mealtimes, and dressing, while promoting sensory and motor skill development.
  • Facilitating Interactions: Support children in maintaining emotional regulation, expressing thoughts, sharing resources, and transitioning between activities.
  • Outdoor Activities: Encourage social interaction and communication during outdoor learning experiences, including walks and gardening.
  • Rest Period Assistance: Aid children in settling down for rest time, promoting relaxation and emotional regulation.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain individual portfolios for each child, showcasing their progress through photographs and work samples.
  • Classroom Maintenance: Perform various tasks as assigned by the Lead Educator, including organizing materials, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the classroom is well-stocked.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Preschool Therapeutic Classroom Support Specialist position should possess at least a high school diploma, with a preference for an associate's degree or higher. Experience working with preschool-aged children (3-5 years) is essential, along with a willingness to learn therapeutic techniques tailored for children facing behavioral challenges. Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, including staff and interns, is a key aspect of this role.
