Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Director to lead our preschool program in Brooklyn. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and supervising all program components to ensure the most effective and productive utilization of these areas for children served.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, interview, hire, orient, train, appraise, supervise, discipline, and terminate subordinate staff as needed.
  • Oversee and direct daily operations of the total program, including education, clinical, medical, clerical, and maintenance.
  • Prepare various agency required program reports and develop, obtain approval of, implement, and monitor program budget.
  • Approve classroom placements and curriculum design, and serve as liaison between parents and school districts.
  • Suggest, develop, coordinate, and implement program goals, and develop, implement, and update program policies and procedures.
  • Approve purchase of supplies and equipment for the program, and handle communication with community organizations and school districts.
  • Facilitate transition of children to next appropriate education placement, and formulate and recommend long-range plans for services and programs to be offered.
  • Prepare departmental projections and other relevant statistics, and handle student placement decisions in other facilities.
  • Ensure that staff receive all required in-service training, and develop and implement in-service training related to children's needs.
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure a safe and healthy workplace, and handle public relations and community education for the program.
  • Complete special projects as requested, and plan for department development and expansion.
  • Develop and implement a Quality Assurance plan for the department, and serve as a standing member of Agency-wide committees.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in the field, and perform other related duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, consumers, families, and outside contacts.
  • Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and appropriate software and E-Mail system.
  • Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
Education and/or Experience
  • Master's Degree in Special Education.
  • At least five years of experience as a Special Education Teacher and four years of experience as a School Administrator.
  • New York State Permanent Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
  • New York State Permanent Certification as a School Administrator and Supervisor.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License and maintain it in good standing.
