REPORTS TO: artWorks Supervisor

STATUS: On-Call

Role Summary:

The On-Call Art Instructor is responsible for supporting the artWorks Supervisor in creating a nurturing and secure atmosphere within the artWorks initiative. This role involves guiding and facilitating artistic expression through diverse media, adhering to the artWorks methodology, and aiding adults with disabilities in honing job skills while engaging in art creation and employing essential soft skills such as patience, persistence, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage directly with artists to inspire and cultivate creativity, innovation, and independent problem-solving, assisting them in achieving their fullest potential in the art marketplace.
  2. Encourage progress through positive reinforcement, exemplifying constructive employment behaviors, and providing insightful feedback to promote artist independence.
  3. Stay informed about contemporary art trends within the community.
  4. Maintain precise and current documentation of artist progress.
  5. Interact with customers in the retail space, welcoming them, facilitating sales, and managing financial transactions.
  6. Educate artists on the proper use and maintenance of tools and materials.
  7. Assist in the display and presentation of artwork for sale.
  8. Participate in art exhibitions and events to showcase the artists' creations.
  9. Ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
  10. Attend to the personal care needs of individuals served.
  11. Uphold recipient rights and confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and relevant regulations.
  12. Actively engage in and demonstrate knowledge of culturally competent, recovery-oriented practices, person-centered planning, and trauma-informed care to support consumers in their recovery journey.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the artWorks Supervisor in organizing and storing supplies.
  2. Collaborate with the artWorks Unit Manager to address incidents and implement clinical strategies as needed.
  3. Support volunteer orientation by providing necessary information and guidance to ensure effective collaboration with artists.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. A minimum of one year of education and/or experience in visual arts, with the ability to offer artistic guidance across various media.
  3. Ability to balance the mission of fostering independence with the goal of producing commercially viable artwork.
  4. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or similar populations is strongly preferred.
  5. Familiarity with Person-Centered Planning is advantageous.
  6. Personal experience with behavioral health is desirable.
  7. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for drafting service plans and collaborating effectively with service teams and participants.
  8. Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire creativity in artists.
  9. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment to respond appropriately to both emergency and non-emergency situations independently.
  10. Ability to work autonomously.
  11. A valid Michigan driver's license, a good driving record, and access to a licensed, insured vehicle for job-related tasks are required.
  12. Background checks, including driving record, criminal history, recipient rights screening, and drug screening, are mandatory for this position.
  13. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary to accommodate evening and weekend activities.

Work Environment:

  1. General retail and art studio setting.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to squat, reach, lift, carry up to 25 pounds, and endure prolonged standing.
  2. Must meet intervention certification requirements.
  3. Visual acuity to distinguish between colors is necessary.

COMPENSATION:

Minimum: $15.00

Midpoint: $18.75

Maximum: $22.50
