SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

STATUS: On-Call

Role Summary:

The On-Call Art Instructor is responsible for supporting the artWorks Supervisor in creating a safe and person-centered environment within the artWorks program. This role involves guiding and facilitating artistic expression through various media, while also assisting adults with disabilities in developing essential job skills and soft skills such as patience, persistence, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage directly with artists to inspire creativity and independent problem-solving, helping them achieve their fullest potential in the art market.
  2. Encourage progress through positive reinforcement, modeling effective employment behaviors, and providing constructive feedback to promote independence.
  3. Stay informed about current art trends within the community.
  4. Maintain accurate and timely progress documentation.
  5. Interact with customers in the storefront, handling sales and managing financial transactions.
  6. Educate artists on the proper use and care of tools and materials.
  7. Assist in the display and presentation of artwork for sale.
  8. Participate in art exhibitions and events to showcase the artists' creations.
  9. Ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
  10. Attend to the personal care needs of individuals served.
  11. Protect recipient rights and confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and relevant regulations.
  12. Actively engage in culturally competent, recovery-oriented practices, and person-centered planning to support individuals in defining and achieving their life goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Support the artWorks Supervisor in organizing and storing supplies.
  2. Collaborate with the artWorks Unit Manager to address incidents and implement clinical strategies.
  3. Assist in orienting volunteers, providing them with the necessary information to work effectively with artists.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. At least one year of education and/or experience in visual arts, with the ability to provide artistic guidance across various media.
  3. Ability to balance the mission of fostering independence with the goal of producing commercially viable artwork.
  4. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or similar populations is preferred.
  5. Familiarity with Person-Centered Planning is advantageous.
  6. Personal experience with behavioral health is a plus.
  7. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for writing service plans and collaborating with teams.
  8. Proven ability to motivate and inspire artists.
  9. Effective problem-solving skills and sound judgment to respond appropriately to various situations.
  10. Ability to work independently without supervision.
  11. A valid Michigan driver's license and a good driving record are required, along with access to a licensed, insured vehicle for job-related duties.
  12. Background checks, including driving record, criminal history, recipient rights screening, and drug testing, are mandatory for this position.
  13. Flexible scheduling is necessary to accommodate evening and weekend activities.

Work Environment:

  1. General retail and art studio setting.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to squat, reach, lift, carry up to 25 pounds, and stand for extended periods.
  2. Must meet intervention certification requirements.
  3. Visual discrimination is necessary to differentiate colors.

COMPENSATION:

Minimum: $15.00

Midpoint: $18.75

Maximum: $22.50
