Job Overview and Responsibilities
The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking to recruit an Environmental Scientist to join our dedicated team. This role is pivotal in conducting scientific analyses and gathering essential data regarding environmental impacts, particularly focusing on pesticides and chemicals that influence both the ecosystem and food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed analyses of environmental and agricultural samples, including but not limited to water, soil, and biological materials, utilizing advanced chromatographic techniques to quantify environmental pollutants.
- Collect and analyze pesticide residue data to support local, state, and federal agencies in their regulatory and risk assessment efforts.
- Ensure compliance with labeling standards by analyzing pesticides and related products according to established guidelines.
- Conduct mineral and heavy metal analyses using sophisticated instruments to support agricultural inspection programs.
- Engage in method validation and development to enhance laboratory procedures and ensure accuracy in results.
- Apply scientific principles to address challenges in environmental monitoring and hazardous materials management, ensuring adherence to relevant environmental regulations.
This position requires a commitment to scientific integrity and the ability to work effectively in a laboratory setting. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their expertise through a comprehensive Statement of Qualifications that highlights their relevant experience and skills.
Work Environment:
The role is primarily conducted indoors, with occasional telework options available. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art analytical tools and provides a conducive environment for scientific inquiry.
