Key Responsibilities:
- The Environmental Policy Specialist will work closely with the Advocacy Director and Executive Director to shape legislative agendas. You will engage in projects focused on waste reduction, plastic waste management, and recycling legislation within the state. Your duties will include:
- Conducting thorough research and analysis to inform policy initiatives
- Representing the organization in legislative sessions, regulatory hearings, and stakeholder discussions
- Drafting position statements, public testimonies, informational materials, and policy briefs
- Acting as a representative for the organization in various coalitions, professional gatherings, and public outreach activities
- Supporting the team with communication strategies and development efforts
Required Qualifications:
- Ideal candidates should be proactive, committed to public interest, organized, and detail-oriented, with a positive attitude. Additional qualifications include:
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities
- Familiarity with California's legislative and regulatory frameworks
- A degree in environmental studies, public policy, or a related discipline; knowledge of waste management or legislative processes is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and online research platforms
- Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with diverse groups
- Experience in a dynamic work environment
- Able to work independently while managing multiple tasks
- Preferable understanding of California's environmental and public policy landscape
- A strong dedication to environmental advocacy
Compensation Package:
Salary range: $40,000 - $50,000 to $60,000 - $72,000 annually. Includes a competitive benefits package such as medical, dental, paid time off, holidays, and sick leave.
