The Fleet Division of Hanover County General Services is in search of an ASE Certified Medium-Heavy Truck or Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT). Position Overview:

This role is a skilled technical position responsible for performing both routine and complex tasks related to the repair and maintenance of County vehicles and specialized automotive equipment.

Career Path:

The Automotive Technician position is integrated into Hanover's Career Development Program (CD). The Automotive Technician Ladder consists of four (4) levels, progressing from Automotive Technician I to Senior Automotive Technician. The incumbent will report to the Fleet Manager and will not supervise any staff. Senior Automotive Technicians may act as workflow leaders for junior Technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct services and repairs on various automotive systems and components.

• Diagnose repair needs effectively.

• Rebuild mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.

• Perform Virginia State inspections.

• Operate vehicles and test systems to verify the effectiveness of repairs or services performed.

• Complete necessary documentation, including requisitions and service records.

• Undertake related tasks as assigned.

Working Environment:

A. Hazards

• Exposure to chemicals, including petroleum products, cleaning solvents, dust, and fumes.

• Work involves heavy equipment, which may produce noise and vibrations.

B. Environment

• Primarily located inside a shop, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.

• Fieldwork may require driving to test vehicles.

C. Physical Demands

• Regular lifting of objects exceeding 25 pounds.

• Frequent climbing onto and beneath vehicles and equipment.

D. Employment Status

• Non-exempt position.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

• Certification as an A/C Technician (EPA-approved Section 609) is mandatory.

• Higher levels on the Career Ladder necessitate additional experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting.

• Twelve-month probationary period may apply.

• Availability for on-call duties during nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Possession of a valid driver's license and Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

• VA State Inspector's License is required.

• Pre-employment physical examination, drug test, and breath alcohol testing will be conducted, with periodic testing thereafter.

• Uniform and safety equipment must be worn during work hours.

• This position is subject to the department's on-call procedures.
